Supporting Healthy Habits in Seasonal Tourism

Starting in October 2026, we are introducing two dedicated programmes designed to support seasonal tourism workers in reflecting on and changing their drinking habits. Our goal is to promote long-term wellbeing within the vibrant tourism industry.

Individual programme

Our individual programme offers personalized, one-on-one sessions tailored specifically to the unique rhythms of a tourism career. We focus on building personal resilience and practical strategies to manage alcohol intake effectively while away from home.

Group programme

The group programme creates a collaborative space for tourism workers to share experiences and support one another in achieving common goals. Together, we foster a community-led culture that celebrates balance and mindful social drinking habits.

Two programmes. Both begin in October 2026.
Joining

Nobody joins the individual programme without two things first.

A short questionnaire. Everyone completes the WHO AUDIT screening with a facilitator. It takes ten minutes and there is no wrong answer to it.

A doctor. Every participant is assessed by a doctor before starting. This is not a formality. It is how we establish that someone is in the range we can help, and it is the only safe way to know whether reducing their drinking needs medical supervision.

Below 8           We talk it through, and the group is open if they want it

8 to 19             Either programme is open, after the doctor's assessment

20 or above     We do not enrol. We help them reach a doctor or a treatment service,

Score                    What happens

and we explain why

We repeat AUDIT at three and six months, so participants can see their own change rather than taking our word for it.

Turning someone away is the hardest part of this and we do it anyway. A project that takes everyone who asks is not being generous — it is being careless with the people it cannot help.

While preparing the program

We take information privacy and ethical data collection seriously. To ensure our programmes are meeting your needs, we record participant engagement patterns and qualitative outcomes from our sessions. This data is fully anonymized and used exclusively to refine our support frameworks for the tourism community.

Individual progress notes are kept strictly confidential between the participant and their dedicated facilitator. We do not share personal identifiers with third parties, and all records are stored in high-security, encrypted environments in compliance with global data protection standards.

Program in Photos

What we are doing... This is continuously updated.

Integrated program conducted in nature

You can cultivate habits that nurture both body and mind through various activities on the beaches of a beautiful island nation.

Integration programs based on local culture and religion

This program respects the participants' cultures and religions and enables continuous engagement and healing in their daily lives.

** Due to a lack of consent from some participants, photos in which individuals could not be identified were displayed.

What we record

With participants' consent, we record basic information that does not currently exist for this area: AUDIT scores at intake, three months and six months; occupation and its relationship to the tourism season, how drinking patterns change between high and low season, which parts of the routine participants keep and which they abandon, and the age at which participants started drinking.

Our sample will be very small and we will not present it as representative. But no data of any kind exists for alcohol use in these three towns, and a small honest record is more useful than none.

We will also publish what does not work. Small projects rarely write down their failures, which is part of why the same mistakes keep being repeated.
